Dr Julian Seidel
Technical Director and Chairman
Julian has 27 years professional experience as a geotechnical engineer specializing in deep foundations, with particular expertise in pile dynamics and rock socketed piles. He has been employed as a senior engineer with general and specialist geotechnical and foundation engineering consultants, a government road authority, a specialist deep foundation contractor, and at University as senior lecturer and researcher. His broad and extensive experience makes Dr. Seidel uniquely placed to advise on the planning, commissioning, design, installation and verification of structural foundations, with a focus on efficiency and constructability. He has developed a strong reputation in industry for providing practical and state-of-the-art expert advice on projects in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr Ben Collingwood
Ben has 20 years experience, as a geotechnical engineer having worked for a leading infrastructure contractor and geotechnical consultant, as well as national piling contractor, Wagstaff Piling Pty Ltd prior to joining FSG. During this time he was responsible for tendering, design, project engineering and project & construction management for over 350 commercial foundation construction contracts, including some of the largest and most challenging piling projects in Australia. He has a detailed understanding of a broad range of deep foundation systems including bored piling, CFA piling, driven precast, steel and timber piling, sheet piling, piled retention systems, diaphragm walls, soil mixing and cut-off walls. Ben’s unique blend of technical knowledge, construction management experience and commercial understanding make him ideally placed to assist clients in all aspects of foundation engineering practice.
Dr Jim Slatter
Jim is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in deep foundations spanning geotechnical consulting, academic research and contracting. As Managing Director of two of Australia’s largest piling contractors (Vibropile and Piling Contractors), he has been involved in some of Australia’s largest and most challenging foundation engineering projects. Jim’s extensive experience in design and construction of a broad range of piling systems provides essential practical and technical experience to what is often a high risk component of the design and construction process. He is well informed on the latest construction techniques and technical innovations in the piling sector as well as risk management processes during procurement and construction. Since joining FSG Jim has been involved in a wide variety of projects nationally and has a detailed understanding of pile design, testing and installation including all relevant RMS and TMR specifications. Jim is regularly invited to speak at technical seminars on pile design, construction techniques, testing and verification.
Dr Burt Look
Senior Principal Engineer
Burt has over 30 years professional Engineering experience with 27 years specialising in geotechnics. He is widely recognised in the areas of earthworks, expansive clays, slope stability and landslides, risk assessment, ground improvement, and site characterisation. His expertise is used in the planning and implementation of the geotechnical findings into the design to provide innovative solutions for technically demanding projects. He is often called upon for expert assessments in legal issues.
Burt has published widely (over 50 technical publications and 3 books) and has developed and presented the Engineering Education Australia (EEA) course on “Earthworks” course for the past 8 years. He is the past Chairman of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Geomechanics Society and a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (IEAust).
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Adam is a chartered geotechnical engineer with over 15 years industry experience specialising in geotechnical engineering and design. Adam has considerable experience in leading the planning and execution of geotechnical investigations and design for major infrastructure projects across Queensland. Adam has specialist knowledge in soft ground engineering, slope stability, stabilisation, retention and ground improvement and has provided technical advice for the following major projects; Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (Geotechnical Lead), Ipswitch Motorway Upgrade (R2D), Wiggins Island Coal Terminal (WICET) – Stage 1 and Expansion Phase feasibility studies, Sunshine Motorway Duplication and the Port of Brisbane Motorway. Adam’s specialist knowledge in soft ground engineering is highlighted in his journal paper titled “The Consolidation Behaviour of Alluvial Soft Clay in Gladstone, Central Queensland”.
Dr David Lacey
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
David is a chartered senior geotechnical engineer with over 10 years of South East Queensland based industry experience. He has extensive knowledge in site characterisation, interpretation and geotechnical design. David has worked as the lead geotechncal engineer on a number of major infrastructure and commercial developments and has significant experience in pile design, slope stability assessment and modelling, deformation assessment, the design of ground improvement of soft soils and embankment design. David has worked in various roles including periods engaged as lead design engineer, site engineer and site superintendent on major infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects throughout Queensland. David has worked as the Geotechnical Section Leader of the Jacobs’ Brisbane based geotechnical team, and recently completed his PhD candidature in which he investigated appropriate testing methods to assess in-situ material parameters of residual soil profiles present within Queensland.
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Ross is a chartered geotechnical engineer with undergraduate qualifications in civil engineering, applied mathematics and earth sciences and post-graduate qualifications in soil mechanics. Ross has over 10 years experience in geotechnical engineering including site investigations, geotechnical interpretive reporting and detailed design for infrastructure clients across Australia and New Zealand. He has worked as a site engineer, project manager, designer, discipline lead and proof engineer. Ross has been involved in construction supervision and support on a number of project sites, and enjoys working in integrated project teams to solve complex engineering problems with smart, pragmatic solutions.
Senior Engineering Geologist
Dion is a senior geotechnical engineer with 15 years’ experience in geotechnical consulting and working for specialist piling subcontractors in Australia and the UK. Dion has experience in geological/geotechnical mapping, analysis and reporting on geotechnical structures. Dion also has extensive experience in dynamic pile testing (PDA testing) and has achieved “Advanced” status on the High Strain Dynamic Pile Testing (HSDPT) Register. He also has extensive experience in the use and interpretation of Pile Driving Monitor (PDM) data, low strain pile integrity testing (PIT) and Cross Hole Sonic logging (CSL). Dion is also experience in the inspection and verification of large diameter bored piles including socket logging and supervision of construction of piles under bentonite and polymer drilling fluids.

Roozbeh is a chartered geotechnical engineer with over 11 years professional experience. Roozbeh brings significant structural and geotechnical engineering experience across a wide array of project works. Roozbeh is competent across many facets of the engineering discipline and seeks to provide innovative engineering design with strong technical analysis. Roozbeh is a highly competent geotechnical analyst with a clear understanding of engineering first principles and the latest software products used in the industry.
Dr Dileeka Jasinge
Dr. Dileeka Jasinge is a geotechnical engineer with over 10 years experience. He has extensive experience in PDA testing, PDM testing, inspection and verification of bored piles, site investigation and slope risk analysis (RMS accredited). Dileeka is a disciplined and solutions-focused professional with accomplished skills and experience in supervision of pile construction (bored piles and driven piles), pile design, pile testing and engineering report writing.
Jared is a geotechnical engineer with 5 years experience. His key skills are slope stability, soil nails, residual soils and geotechnical modelling. Jared is also a highly skilled numerical modeller and is experienced in the use of software including PLAXIS, WALLAP, PYGMY, GeoStudio, GRLWEAP, gINT, Core-GS, Strater, Surfer, AutoCAD and ArcMap. He also has extensive experience conducting and co-ordinating major site investigations including the recent Ipswitch Motorway Upgrade (R2D) site investigation phase.
